Video: Ukraine today. Before the war and now

This film reflects the principle “Ukraine Before and After”.
Peace and War.
We used numerous videos and photographs in the public domain.
In the peaceful part, we will see a prosperous, modern European country, where there was everything to live freely and happily. In the second, what can happen to such a country.
Ukraine before the war is shown at different times of the year: spring, summer, autumn, winter.
Spring is Easter, blooming apple orchards, magnolia in the botanical garden, the day of Kyiv …
Summer is festivals, the Land of Dreams, Children’s Day, Trinity (Ivan Kupala’s holiday), football matches, the Book Arsenal (the cult event of summer travels the whole country), Odessa, sea, port…
Autumn – wheat fields, harvesting, students, Ukrainian Fashion Week, Hoverla…
Winter – Carpathians, mountains, ski resort, snow, blizzard, Christmas, the country’s main Christmas tree on Sophia Square, which was recognized as one of the beautiful in Europe…
In this kaleidoscope of peaceful everyday life and holidays, any European, on the one hand, can recognize himself, his usual life. On the other hand, to see our national identity, which we value as much as he does his own.

The second part will begin with the most terrible day for every Ukrainian – February 24th. From this moment on, the picture will change dramatically.
The bombing of cities almost throughout the country, the destroyed Mariupol Drama Theater, the metro, where people lived for weeks, studied, watched movies, arranged exhibitions and concerts, children sleep in basements, Azovstal, Irpen, Bucha, which became the only way of life, the destroyed bridge in Irpin.
We will also see Ukraine through the eyes of professional photographers and artists, whose art has created new Ukrainian symbols:
The Kyiv Madonna in the subway, the postage stamp “Russian warship”, the sapper dog “Patron”, the legendary plane “Mriya”, a girl who saves a dozen disabled dogs, a kitchen shelf with a rooster – the only thing left of a cozy kitchen, flows of refugees.

The film was shown in Münster, Germany at the exhibition “Ukrainian children’s book illustrators draw war” in July 2022
